Guest Post – Romantic Fantasy Writing: How to get started?

Writing a novel involves weaving a story out of many details and pieces of information. However, it’s important to remember that with novel writing as well as weaving, the quality of the finished product depends entirely on the quality of content that goes into weaving it. If you prepare properly, provide adequate details and specifics and invest yourself into the art of creating the story; when it’s finished, it should all flow well and fit together beautifully. Romantic fantasy novels have gained popularity over the past few years. While romantic fantasy authors must follow the same guidelines as authors of historical romance or suspense novels, there are a few additional tips that they can benefit from.

Mind vs Heart – Who will win the battle?

She was dressed in a simple pink salwar with matching accessories to boot. Her face was devoid of any make up which made her look natural. Her eyes seemed to be searching for someone really important. And as she went on, her natural smile transformed into a sexy pout. Her hair was neither curly nor straightened; somewhere in between. She was different. She didn’t believe in using chemicals to make herself look good.

Seeing her, my mind and heart started running in circles. And thus began their conversation –

Heart – “Who is she? How is she here? Whatever it is, she looks stunning. She’s like a dream come true.”

Mind – “Get a grip dude. She must be having a strong reason to be on a train like this. Maybe, she is waiting for her husband.”

Heart – “Husband? Are you crazy? She’s so young and beautiful. She must be anything but married.”

Mind – “Look at her. She’s so simple. Do you think she is your type? You are crazy about all the rich and fancy females at work. She is anything but the ones you keep running after.”

We meet different kinds of people in life. Some of them are awesome. They shape our world, our lives, our thinking, everything about them is just amazing. And we end up giving them the maximum importance. But then some are not so awesome but still good enough to define our lives, careers and thoughts. And finally there are those who irritate us, trouble us, frustrate us and stress us out. They don’t deserve our attention, our love or either our care. But despite all the problems they cause in our lives, we end up giving them a lot of importance. Why is that? Do they really deserve it?

The Idea

The story is about two individuals who are as different as chalk and cheese. It’s the story of their love transcending years and continents. If he is quiet, calm and reserved, she is bubbly, cheerful and vivacious. If he rarely talks to people, she talks so much to anyone and everyone that she could create a racket. He’s a suave, young and dynamic working man of today. But his life revolves around work. There’s something he wants to forget. There’s something which is bothering him which he wants to escape from. So he keeps himself as busy as he can. There is a strong desire to earn as much as he can in the least possible time.

Why is it so easy to be sad but so hard to be happy?

Happiness and Sadness are two emotions which define one’s life. They are the emotions which walk hand in hand with each other. They are states of the mind which arrive at different intervals in life. If either of them would disappear, life would be poorer without them. At times, there are extended periods of happiness while at others there are extended periods of sadness. But the irony is such that when there are extended periods of sadness, we all complain. But in case of extended periods of happiness, no one thinks one bit that sadness could be lurking anywhere around the corner.

Guest Post: Around The World in Just A Day or Two!

No, it’s not really about Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare or any reference to any form of communication on the Internet or movies for that matter.

I love to travel. Looking at the list of countries I have visited, I’m quite proud to say that I’ve been to Thailand, Indonesia, China, Australia, Cambodia, Turkey, Italy, and France. I am 25 and recently got married and moved from Malaysia to the United Kingdom. Of course, I don’t intend to end that list just yet!

I was enjoying a nice long bath not too long ago, and this triggered the thought of my friends back in Malaysia. Don’t get me wrong – we don’t share baths! But the nice warm feeling reminded me of the common poolside area we have in the condominium where I used to stay. That was where we neighbours usually met, gathered with friends, ate and bantered about life. That made me suddenly realize that I probably know more about the rest of the world than without realizing it!

Guest post by Barbara Jolie – The Power and Flexibility of Emoticons

Since the dawn of internet chat rooms (or perhaps the internet itself), there have been small (usually less than five characters, though this is slowly evolving to higher character counts) abbreviations that people have used to increase the speed of discourse and the expression of common emotions.
